Forklift attachments can turn one machine into a more capable materials-handling tool. The right attachment can improve load control, reduce manual handling and make repetitive work more efficient. Fork positioners

Fork extensions and slippers
Fork extensions increase the effective length of the forks for longer pallets or loads. They can be helpful for occasional applications where standard forks do not provide enough support.
Longer forks change the load centre and can reduce capacity. Extensions should be correctly fitted, secured and suitable for both the forklift and load. They should not be treated as a way to lift beyond the machine’s rated capability.
Jibs and lifting attachments
A forklift jib provides a hook or lifting point for suspended loads. It may be used for machinery components, equipment or loads that cannot be lifted from underneath with standard forks.
Suspended loads behave differently from pallets and can swing during movement. Careful planning, suitable rigging and a compatible attachment are essential. The forklift should remain on stable ground and the load should be kept controlled.

Work platforms and cages
Purpose-designed work platforms may be used for certain elevated tasks when compatible with the forklift and workplace requirements. They are not interchangeable with pallets or improvised cages.
Any elevated-person application requires careful risk control, suitable equipment and compliance with applicable workplace safety requirements. A forklift attachment should never be improvised for lifting people.
How attachments affect forklift capacity
Attachment weight, thickness and forward projection can all affect the forklift’s rated capacity. A load that is within the machine’s basic capacity may no longer be suitable once an attachment changes the load centre.
